Learning the phases of mitosis and meiosis isn’t always easy for students.
This chromosome simulation activity removes some of the confusion by taking chromosomes off the page and putting them in students’ hands.
Students get an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of mitosis and meiosis as they build their own chromosomes using poppit beads and magnetic centromere connectors.
Not only does the activity allow students to manipulate chromosomes through various stages of cellular division, it adds a layer of complexity by including events such as crossing over and chromosome aberrations.
