Snails belong to the large phylum of animals known as the molluscs. They have coiled shells and move by secreting mucus from their large, muscular foot. Snails can be terrestrial, freshwater or marine, as well as herbivorous, omnivorous or carnivorous.
Southern Biological supplies freshwater snails known as ramshorn snails due to the appearance of their flatly coiled shells. Their shells are approximately 20 mm in diameter and they are supplied as a culture of 10 individuals. When adding snails to an aquarium, allow them to acclimatise by floating the bag of snails in the aquarium until the temperature has reached equilibrium. The snails will breed in captivity, but the immature snails are easily preyed upon by fish and other invertebrates such as leeches and planaria.
