Description: L7.1 is a Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) Vestigal Wing culture containing 20 mature adult Drosophila (male and Female). Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) are used to demonstrate the principles of heredity. This fly is perfect for demonstrating Mendelian ratios, sex linkage, dominance and variation. Many generations of flies are produced in a relatively short period of time as the life cycle of the Drosophila is completed within twenty days.

Genetic Information: 

 

  • Recessive trait: Wings reduced to vestiges and usually held at right angles to the body. Viability somewhat reduced.

   

Notes

 

  • Virgin flies will emerge from the culture approximately 20 days after receipt of the delivery.

  • You will need virgin females for any genetic crossing activities as the mature adults, supplied in our culture are not suitable for genetic work as they have already mated.
