Kookaburra

Dacelo novaeguinea

The laughing kookaburra, so named for its shrieking call that can be mistaken for laughter, is native to coastal areas of Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea.  This species is a carnivore using its relatively large beak to catch insects and small vertebrates.  To cope with arid conditions, the kookaburra does not drink and can survive on the moisture it receives from its prey.

Model length: 11.5cm
