M1.30 Amino Acid Starter Kit Students explore the shape and chemical properties of the 20 amino acid sidechains with engaging foam models. The sidechains feature dual colouring schemes - colour on one side indicates chemical properties and on the other side students colour-code atoms. Since understanding protein structure begins with this unique combination of shape and chemical properties of the amino acid sidechains, students will gain a basic knowledge of the laws that determine protein folding. The kit includes all necessary components, as well as a CD of images and documents that provide instructions, background teacher notes and student hand-outs. A copy of the "Jmol" program and a number of Jmol files* with questions that build on the original learning are also included to provide an extra interactive experience. |
