Gel Loading Practice Kit

The realistic moulded gel models in this engaging kit are made from a durable flexible resin that are ideal for students to practice using micropipettes to load a gel.

Place a gel in a dish and cover with water to simulate a real agarose gel covered with buffer solution in an electrophoresis chamber.  Use a micropipette (not included) to load samples of the dye solutions provided.  When all the wells have been loaded, just rinse the gel under running water and you are ready to start again.

The realistic appearance and size of these models will prepare your students for the real thing without the trouble and expense of having to cast real agar or agarose gels.  The kit includes:

  • 2 practice gel models, 100mm x 63mm x 6mm with two rows of 8 wells

  • 1 printed DNA Banding pattern, self-adhering

  • 4 tubes of practice loading dye

  • 1 plastic pipette (1mL)

  • Instructions

Note, these model gels are not suitable for actual gel electrophoresis.

The printed self-adhering transparency resembles a double DNA banding pattern.  Simply place the transparency in position on the back of a gel and you have a realistic model of a DNA separation that can be used for demonstration and discussion.  When you want to revert to using the gel for practice loading, carefully peel the transparency off and you are ready to go.
