Carolina Biological Exploring Electrophoresis of DNA Kits

Students separate mixtures of pre-cut DNA fragments using samples of lambda DNA:

• uncut

• cut with EcoRI

• cut with HindIII

to effectively demonstrate the action of restriction enzymes and the principles of electrophoresis.  Gels can be run in 3.5 hours using three 9V batteries or overnight with one battery.  Apparatus and materials are included.

Apparatus consists of a gel chamber and comb, micro-pipettes and connecting cables.

Materials included are:

• Agarose and concentrated TBE buffer

• Ready-to-use pre-digested DNA samples, stable at room temperature.

• CarolinaBLU™ DNA stain

• Pipette tips.

• Carbon fibre electrodes.

The demonstration kit contains fully illustrated instructions, one set of apparatus and sufficient materials for two demonstrations.

G2.98CK - Classroom Activity Kit

The classroom activity kit contains fully illustrated instructions, five sets of apparatus and sufficient materials for ten experiments.

G2.98CK-RK - Classroom Refill Kit

The classroom refill kit contains replacement materials that can be used with the apparatus in G2.98 or G2.98CK.  There are sufficient materials for ten experiments.
