Catalase

Catalase is a high activity enzyme that facilitates the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to harmless oxygen and water.  This is a protective function to prevent cell damage that could be caused by hydrogen peroxide, a powerful oxidizing agent.  Catalase is found in nearly all animals as well as many microbes and plants.  It is also used widely in industrial processes.
