Dry Fruits

The fruits shown in this chart are divided into two categories.  The fruits above the title are indehiscent (they do not split open at maturity) and include an Achene, one seeded fruit such as Sunflower seed, Samara, winged achenes like Maple seed, Caryopsis, single seed such as grain and rice, Nut, one seed surrounded by a hard wall, and Schizocarp that split into segments at maturity such as Celery.

The dehiscent fruit that split open at maturity include a capsule from a Poppy, a Silicle and a Silique from a Brassica seed pod, a Loment from Hedysarum, a Legume seed pod from a locust and a Follicle from Milkweed.
